England
The Lister Surgical Skills Competition, in association with Johnson & Johnson Medical Companies, has seen regional heats taking place throughout the UK, from August to December 2011, to shortlist the top medical students in the UK for the Grand Final which will take place at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) on Saturday 11 February 2012.
20 medical students (3rd, 4th or 5th year) have been competing in each of the 13 English Deaneries to win a travel and accommodation package to RCSEd in February, where they will have the chance to win a week at the Johnson & Johnson Medical Companies Skills Centre in Hamburg. East of England
The East of England Regional Heat of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition took place at the NANIME Clinical Skills Lab, Education Centre, Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital on Wednesday 19th October 2011. The competition was run by Regional Surgical Advisers Mr Vivek Chitre, Mr Milind Kulkarni and Mr Raaj Praseedom, with participating senior medical students from Cambridge and East Anglia universities. Congratulations to wiiner, Vlad Paraoan from Cambridge University and runner-up, Martin Ball from East Anglia University. Vlad Paraoan will now go through to the Grand Final of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition on Saturday 11 February 2012 as part of our Lister Centenary Celebrations.

East Midlands
The East Midlands Regional Heat was held at the Trent Simulation and Skills Centre at Queen's Medical Centre Campus, Nottingham on Saturday 8 October 2011. Congratulations to the winner, Christopher Bayliss from Nottingham University and runner-up, Charlotte Rowley from Leicester University. Christopher Bayliss will now go through to the Grand Final of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition on Saturday 11 February 2012 as part of our Lister Centenary Celebrations.

Kent, Surrey & Sussex and Wessex
The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Regional Heat was held jointly with Wessex on Saturday 26 November at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey. Both the Kent, Surrey and Sussex and Wessex heats were led by Mr Iain Paterson as Regional Surgical Adviser for the KSS region. Congratulations to winner, Kishan Moosai from Brighton and Sussex Medical School and runner-up, Emma Low from Southampton Medical School. As this was a joint regional heat, both will go through to the Grand Final in Edinburgh on Saturday 11 February 2012.

London
Senior medical students at London Medical Schools participated in the London Regional Heat on the morning of Saturday 12 November 2011, at The British Medical Association, BMA House, Tavistock Square, London. Congratulations to winner, Mudit Matanhelia from St George's University London and runner-up, Deepti Sinha from Kings College London. Mudit Matanhelia will now go through to the Grand Final of the Competition on Saturday 11 February 2012 as part of our Lister Centenary Celebrations.

Mersey
The Mersey Regional Heat took place on Thursday 13 October 2011 at the Undergraduate Education Centre, Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral. Congratulations to winner, David Fawkner-Corbett and runner-up, Drew MacLean, both from Liverpool University. David Fawkner-Corbett will now go through to the Grand Final of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition on Saturday 11 February 2012, as part of our Lister Centenary Celebrations.

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh's Regional Surgical Advisers Mr Stuart Clark, Mr Chelliah Selvasekar and Mr Jeyaram Srinivasan ran the Lister Surgical Skills Competition on Friday 21 October at the Royal Preston Hospital, Education Centre. Congratulations to winner, Geraldine Klein and runner-up, Peter Hutchison, both from Manchester University. Geraldine Klein will now go through to the Grand Final in Edinburgh on 11 February 2012.

Northern
The College's Regional Surgical Advisers for the North of England, Mr Mike Clarke and Mr Jonathan Ferguson ran the Northern Regional Heat of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition on Monday 24 October at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, with the kind help of Mr Alastair Murray, Mr Enoch Akowuah and Mr Rob Gregory and Louise Buzzeo from Limbs and Things. Congratulations to winner, Mahsa Saleki and runner-up, Christopher Bonham, both from Newcastle University. Mahsa Saleki will now go through to the final of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition in Edinburgh on 11 February 2012.

The Oxford Regional Heat of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition took place at the Oxford Medical School Skills Lab on Saturday 15 October 2011. Congratulations to winner, Shona Chan and runner-up, Amy Zheng, both from Oxford University. Shona Chan will now go through to the Grand Final of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition on Saturday 11 February 2012.

The Severn Regional Heat of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition took place at Deanery House, Hambrook, Bristol on Saturday 15 October. Senior medical students from Birmingham, Keele and Warwick universities participated in the West Midlands Heat of the Lister Surgical Skills Competition on Wednesday 2 November at the new Education Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Congratulations to winner, Mark Mobley and runner-up, Samantha Chambers, both from Warwick University. Mark Mobley will now go through to the Grand Final of the Competition on 11 February 2012.

Yorkshire & Humber
Senior medical students at Leeds, Sheffield and Hull York universities competed in this regional heat of the competition which took place at Scarborough Postgraduate Medical Centre on Friday 11 November 2011. College Regional Surgical Advisers Mr Aidan Fitzgerald and Dr Clare McNaught ran the event for the students selected to take part. Congratulations to winner, Abhilash Sudarsanam from Sheffield University and runner-up, Stuart Kennedy from Hull York Medical School. Abhilash Sudarsanam will now go through to the Grand Final of the Competition in Edinburgh on 11 February 2012.
